1290-1224 BC: The Hypostyle Hall

1290-1224 BC
The Hypostyle Hall in the Temple of Amun-Re in Karnak, Luxor, Luxor Governorate, Egypt

The Hypostyle Hall in the Temple of Amun-Re is a colossal forest with 134 humongous, 20-meter sandstone columns. These columns supported the clerestory roof and walls until today after more than three thousand years. Moreover, the hall covered an acre of land. Just the scale itself can amaze anyone, and it also has the completeness and decorations which buildings in Egypt lack thereof. Inscriptions of important people's names and their stories like the royalties, pharaohs, emperors, high priests scattered at every corner of the structure: walls, columns and roof.
