1829-1833: “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”

1829-1833
“The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai, Ukiyo-e, ‎Woodblock printing, 26 cm x 38 cm

“The Great Wave off Kanagawa or Under the Wave off Kanagawa” is part of a woodblock print series titled Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji. Although Mount Fuji is supposedly the focal point of the print because it is right at the center, the mountain has always been overpowered by the printing of the large waves in the foreground. In the wave, there are boats trying to balance themselves from sinking.
