70-72: Colosseum

70-72
Colosseum, or Flavian Amphitheatre, in Regio III Isis et Serapis, Rome, Italy

The Colosseum was built during the Flavian emperors as an amphitheater. The Colosseum stands on its own without the assistance of hills like many other amphitheaters. The structure is 189 by 156 meters and it is made purely of stone and concrete. The architectural style used in this theater is a mix of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. The Colosseum was used to host fights between gladiators and animals.
