Connection: Chartres Cathedral and “Self-portrait at the age of 34”

Both works seemingly have a portrait of a human in an arched, rectangular frame. In the Chartres Cathedral, the viewer can see religious images on the stained glass framed in the arched windows. Rembrandt’s portrait is framed under an arch as well. However, while the viewer looks out to see the stain-glass images, the viewer looks into the building in Rembrandt’s portrait.
